A 15-year-old boy was taken by medical helicopter to Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital after he was bitten by a shark, the Village of Surfside Beach police chief has confirmed.
The teen was swimming in waist-deep beach water with other children from a church group when a shark bit his leg late on Monday afternoon. When he reached down to remove the shark, his hand was bitten.
The police chief told FOX 26 News that the child's parents were not present when the incident took place.
The teen was taken by Life Flight medical helicopter to the hospital in stable condition.
