Prairie View A&M University will name Ashley Robinson, director of athletics at Mississippi Valley State University, as the next athletics director for the Panthers.
Prairie View A&M has called a news conference for Tuesday to make their announcement.
Robinson has strong ties to the Panthers athletics department.
He is formerly Prairie View A&M's vice president of athletic compliance and academic advising.
"I am very proud to accept the position of director of athletics at PVAMU," Robinson said in a statement released to FOX 26 Sports by Prairie View A&M.
"It is a wonderful opportunity to lead a program that is committed to students, academics and athletic success. The university's combination of academic and athletic success is a perfect example of my own personal and professional core values. I am excited to become part of the PVAMU family."
Robinson replaces Fred Washington, who became the Panthers athletics director in 2009 after serving as the interim A.D. for 11 months.
Washington chose to step down in March and focus on his other responsibilities within Prairie View A&M.
Washington, who is also the school's vice president of auxiliary services, will now focus on auxiliary operations.
On his watch Panthers athletics won eleven SWAC championships, including football in 2009, the school's first in 45 years.
In 2012 Prairie won SWAC championships in baseball, women's basketball and bowling.
