Conn. Gov. Malloy warns of hazards from heavy rainfall

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is urging residents in low-lying areas to keep an eye on rivers and streams as more heavy rain approaches the state.

Forecasters are calling for 1 to 3 inches of rain through Friday morning, and the National Weather Service has posted flood watches and warnings for Connecticut.

Larger rivers are expected to rise throughout the day Friday, and there could be moderate flooding on some small rivers and streams.

A massive storm system was surging toward the Mid-Atlantic on Thursday after causing widespread power outages but largely failing to live up to its billing in ferocity through the Upper Midwest.
