Residents say city workers leave giant hole in neighborhood

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Residents are complaining about a large hole left unfilled in an Atlanta neighborhood. City water department workers dug the hole to prepare for sewer work, but residents say they haven't returned in weeks.

Amy Clark has grandchildren who like to play in the front yard on Elizabeth Avenue. She says the city water department dug the hole about a month ago.

"They said they was coming back the next day and finish, and the next day hasn't got here yet," said Clark.

On Wednesday afternoon, FOX 5 was there as a city water crew brought out some barrels and set them up on the street.  However, FOX 5's Morse Diggs said that they don't appear to be any more substantial than the old ones that had turned over inside the hole.

Atlanta water officials released a statement saying that the project was not seen as urgent because the roadway is in no danger.  They did say they were going to get to it soon, Morse Diggs reports.
