Talker: Is NSA secrets leaker Edward Snowden a hero or traitor?
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
Edward Snowden, 29, is the government security contractor who took responsibility for leaks about secret government surveillance programs said to include the collection of phone and internet data from ordinary Americans.
Snowden says he put his life in Hawaii, a $200,000 salary, a girlfriend, and a family he loves at risk because he could not allow the U.S. government to secretly destroy privacy, internet freedom, and basic liberties.
Democrats and Republicans are both defending the surveillance programs. They say the surveillance is approved by a court, and the goal is to find foreign terrorists and prevent attacks on Americans. They say Snowden has damaged that ability.
