BCBS vs Memorial Hermann

HOUSTON (FOX 26) -

Hundreds of thousands of Houstonians, covered by Blue Cross Blue Shield, have been getting warnings they might have to find a new doctor.

The insurance company has been unable to negotiate a new contract with the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System, and the hospital will stop treating those patients if an agreement is not reached by a July 1 deadline.

While neither side has publicly talked about details, both have alluded to controlling the costs of healthcare.

Insurance agent Toni King is also a patient advocate.

She says the development has huge ramifications, "People are petrified, right now, that they're gonna' outlive their money. The senior is petrified they're gonna' outlive their money. The people are petrified they're not gonna' have enough money for their health care."

In a statement, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas says it is assuring members they can find other providers, if necessary.
