Flood-ravaged Hall County braces for more rain

Posted: Updated:
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -

Heavy rain could bring more damage to Flowery Branch later this week. Two weeks ago, floods ravaged that city and other parts of Hall County.

Stephens Road in Hall County remains closed after floodwaters washed out a huge section on May 26.

Crews are making progress, but the road is still weeks away from being ready to reopen.

FOX 5 Storm Team meteorologist Joanne Feldman said that a cold front coming in from the west as well as a tropical low pressure in the Gulf of Mexico could dump several inches of rain in Georgia over the next couple of days.

In Flowery Branch, that rainfall could be worse and potentially more damaging than the flooding they saw last week.

"That is a concern to us.  The same problems we had, if we get the, as some meteorologist has have said six inches [of rain], we could have the same problems," said Flowery Branch Mayor Mike Miller.

Spring Street in Flowery Branch is a big concern. Hundreds of people in an apartment complex were stranded when that street, which crosses over the Flowery Branch Creek, was washed out two weeks ago. A temporary road has been built, but some are concerned that it could also be damaged.

Feldman said that it won't take much rain to bring the lakes and rivers back up to flood stage in Hall County.
