In the world of professional cycling, American athletes continue to gain a foothold on the world stage. But a young Houston racer may be ready to take the next step.
21 year-old Lawson Craddock races for an Austin-based team that develops teens and young men for the pros.
In the recent Tour of California, the biggest bike race in the country, Craddock finished 8th out more than a hundred finishers and was named the Best Young Rider.
While visiting family and friends in Houston, Craddock says his performance has caught the attention of some bigger teams.
"I've been racing bikes for 11 years, now," he says, "And all I've dreamed about since I first started racing was to make the leap into the pro tour."
If an offer comes, Craddock says he plans to have conversations with his family and coaches to help determine when a leap to the pros might make the most sense.
