SHOREVIEW, Minn. (KMSP) -

Two people are dead and two others injured after a shooting Tuesday morning at a home in Shoreview, Minn.

The shooting was reported around 10 a.m. in the 5900 block of Grotto Street near the intersection of County Road J on the north end of Shoreview.

Minneapolis lawyer Nancy Sullivan, 57, was in the process of moving out of the home when her live-in boyfriend, 65-year-old Johnny Simpson walked in and began shooting.

Sullivan and Simpson are both dead. Ramsey County investigators stopped short of calling the shooting a murder-suicide on Tuesday because they need to determine whether Simpson took his own life intentionally or was shot during some sort of struggle over the gun.

Ramsey County Sheriff's Office Spokesman Randy Gustafson confirmed Tuesday a man and woman were killed and another man and woman were injured. There were no children in the home at the time of the shooting.

FOX 9 News confirmed with the Barnes & Thornburg LLP that Sullivan is a partner and pro bono legal services coordinator at the firm.

"We are greatly saddened to learn about the loss of our beloved law partner and colleague, Nancy Sullivan. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Nancy's family at this difficult time. She was an exceptional lawyer and a wonderful person. We will miss her greatly," the firm said in a statement released to FOX 9 News.

According to the firm's website, Sullivan was an active member of many community organizations, including:

- Pathways to Success (board member)
- Hope Family Community Services (volunteer)
- Cristo Rey High School Mentorship Program (volunteer)
- Ruben Lindh Agency

The two people who were injured in the shooting are Sullivan's relatives who were helping her move out of the home. Both were taken to Regions Hospital and are scheduled for surgery Wednesday for gunshot wounds.

Family members identified the two injured victims as Katie Fay, Sullivan's daughter, and Tony Brown, releasing a statement that said: "We are grateful for all the thoughts and prayers for our family. We ask for the media and public to respect our privacy as we focus on healing."

Regions Hospital confirmed Fay is in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the abdomen, but there was no information on Brown's condition. A family friend told FOX 9 News Brown was shot in the leg and is expected to recover.

Property records indicate Simpson lived at the home, and neighbors confirmed that he lived there; however, they did not have any idea there were problems that would lead to violence.

"I'm so surprised if it's true he shot his girlfriend," said neighbor Alvin Batiller. "They're so loving. She's always on the pool, poolside reading a book or something."

A family friend of Simpson told FOX 9 News there was absolutely no history of domestic violence between Simpson and Sullivan, and she said children of both Sullivan and Simpson are shocked by the situation.

Simpson was a chef by trade and was also a professional boxer, passionate golfer and a father.

Two movers with AAA moving were loading items into a truck when the shooting occurred, and another neighbor who was driving by heard them screaming as they ran from the home screaming, "He's shooting!"

AAA Movers also released a statement about the shooting:

"Our entire team is saddened by the events that occurred this morning in Shoreview. Our staff on site during the incident managed with care and cooperation. Our sincerest thoughts and prayers go out to all of the victim's family members."
