Regents stop construction on Adams' new UGA office

Posted: Updated:

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - State officials have put a halt to construction of a new office suite at the University of Georgia for Michael Adams, who steps down as president this summer but will remain on the school's faculty.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports by the time University System of Georgia officials rejected the plans, workers had already begun installing wall dividers to convert a classroom into an office for Adams at the Richard B. Russell Special Collections Libraries Building. They will have to undo the work and reconvert the space to a classroom.

Board of Regents spokesman John Millsaps says Adams, who leaves the president's office June 30, will get an existing office at the main UGA library.

UGA officials estimated creating a new office for Adams would have cost nearly $25,000.
