President Obama is in the Austin-area Thursday. He was here to kick off a new education and business initiative with stops including at Manor Tech High School and Applied Materials. But his day in Austin began at ABIA.

The decision by the President to come to Texas to kick off his new education and business campaign raised a few GOP eyebrows despite that the welcome mat was out.

Air Force One slipped out of a low cloud cover a few minutes earlier than expected.

As the wheels touched down, a slight cheer was made from a group of special guest who were invited to be here. And again as the President emerged from the jet along with Congressman Lloyd Doggett. At the bottom of the stairs, the President was greeted by Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell and Governor Rick Perry.

The Governor spoke to us later about his conversation with the president about his visit to learn about local education and business innovations and why this trip to Texas could be an opportunity for both their parties to find some common political ground.

"We have a philosophical disagreement but the results are what really matter," Perry said. "He didn't go to Detroit, he didn't go to Chicago, he didn't go to some of the cities in California that declared bankrupt he came to Austin, Texas. And he came here because we are a success story, and whether you are playing for the red team or whether you are playing for the blue team you like to hang out with a winner. And Texas is a winner."
