MONROE COUNTY, Ga. -

Police arrested two men accused of violent crimes after a high speed chase that ended in Monroe County.

Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Allison Selman-Willis said that the incident began as a routine traffic stop.

"The individual was speeding and the deputy saw the Charger, attempted to stop the Charger and the Charger took off," said Selman-Willis.

Deputies in Monroe County pursued the Dodge Charger through two counties on Interstate 75 after it took off.

The suspect behind the wheel drove at speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour before the car crashed, according to police.

After they arrested both men, authorities said they quickly figured out it  was much more than a speeding bust.

"We ran these two individuals through GCIC, and they came back wanted, one of them out of Gwinnett County, one of them out of Carroll County," said Selman-Willis.

Authorities in Carroll County were looking for 20-year-old Jonathan Irving in connection with a bank robbery at Wells Fargo a day earlier.

Monroe County deputies say they recovered a loaded gun they believe was used in that heist.

"Deputies wear a bullet proof vest for a reason and we carry a gun for a reason, you never know what you're gonna get when you stop a car," said Selman-Willis.

The two suspects were transported to Gwinnett and Carroll counties, respectively.

More charges are likely against both men, especially since the vehicle in which they were riding was reported stolen.
