It's a bizarre and brutal case that could change how CPS workers do their jobs in Harris County...Three suspects have been charged with aggravated kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon after attacking a CPS worker. The accused appeared in court to hear the allegations against them:
Prosecutor: "They spoke with the reporter who stated that her son Davis was upstairs in the apartment acting crazy and that he had locked a CPS worker in the apartment with him."
This is the mug shot of 21 year old Troy Davis...He's the father of the child the cps worker came unannounced to check on...
Estella Oguin is with the Harris County CPS office. She says, "allegations of physical abuse neglectful supervision and medical neglect of a 1 year old female."
That CPS case worker is 23 year old Stephanie Vera. After the surprise visit she was found unconscious in the apartment shared by Davis and his girlfriend 19 year old Karrisa Farrigno. The mother of the 1 year old baby girl.
There was also a third man charged and involved - he's 21 year old Shane Douglas. Here's more of their court appearance on the charges.
Prosecutor: "Officers went upstairs and they were met by a female co-defendant Ms. Farrigno who opened the door for officers when they got inside they observed the complainant the CPS caseworker lying on her back in the apartment. She was not moving and appeared to be injured."
The gruesome details of what happened to the 23 year old CPS worker in that apartment on Tidwell Tuesday don't stop there. CPS officials say the attack came after Vera suggested the child live with a relative during their neglect investigation.
Prosecutor: "She got up and walked with the mother when the defendant Davis got up locked and slammed the door shut the complainant then stated defendant Davis then punched her then punched her and began to choke her."
Investigators say Douglas the third person that asked Davis if he wanted him to finish the CPS worker as he stood over her with a knife.
Oguin says, "they've got a lot of training on how to deescalate a situation when it's becoming volatile."
But what can prepare a 23 year old female for a brutal beating by two men? Officials with CPS in Harris County say they have since taken the child into custody while Vera is recovering in the hospital.
As for the suspects they're facing serious charges and will be back in court on May 9th for the attack on the CPS worker.
