Bike share weight limit

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The Citi Bike share program has its limits.

If you are more than 260 lbs. you are not allowed to rent a bike, the NY Post reported.

The provision was supposedly added for legal reasons at the recommendation of the bike manufacturer.

People will be able to purchase daily, weekly, or yearly memberships and pick up and drop off the bikes at any of the city's planned 600 stations.

Some 6,000 bikes will be available in Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn.

A one-day pass for $9.95 or a seven-day pass for $25 will unlock a bicycle.

New York City claims the new bike share program will generate $36 million annually in local economic activity.

But it has detractors.  A group on Bank Street in the West Village filed a lawsuit after one of the bike stations was placed in front of a building.

Six people were indicted Wednesday in an international ring that managed to take over more than 1,000 StubHub users' accounts and fraudulently buy tickets to such prime events as Jay-Z and Elton John concerts, a New York Yankees-Boston Red Sox game and Broadway shows like "The Book of Mormon," the Manhattan district attorney said. Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. said the thieves would then resell the tickets and split up the proceeds.
