Theft suspect shot after surveillance operation

Posted: Updated:
HOUSTON (FOX 26) -

Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in southeast Houston.

A narcotics investigator with the Harris County Sheriff's Office, along with a South Houston police officer, was conducting a surveillance operation when they observed a man break into a Chevrolet truck around 2:40 p.m. Tuesday. That man drove the truck away from the South Houston High School parking lot.

The investigator and officer followed the suspect until the truck crashed into a curb on Parakeet Road near Marleen Street.

The suspect ran from the truck toward the officers while holding a metallic object. Fearing for the safety of himself and his fellow law enforcement officer, the narcotics investigator fired his gun at the suspect, striking him in the buttocks.

The injured suspect was taken to a nearby hospital and will face criminal charges.
