A Houston-area doctor has a suggestion for anyone seeking a more youthful appearance. It involves a rough surface to remove the upper layers of the skin.
Dr. Haresh Yalamanchili at the Belage Center for Facial Plastic Surgery explains the difference between microdermabrasion and dermabrasion, to help erase fine lines and wrinkles.
"These are two procedures that get confused. You can get microdermabrasion in a medical spa. It involves exfoliating the top dead layer of skin, and you can do it routinely. Dermabrasion is a deep procedure, surgical, to treat deeper lines and wrinkles, especially around the mouth. It requires more time to recover, because damaged skin has to grow back. It can take a week to two weeks to recover from it," explains Dr. Yalamanchili.
It's important to talk to a doctor to see which is appropriate for you. Dr. Yalamanchili says it's also important to get a board-certified physician, if you choose the more extreme form of Dermabrasion.
