More than 30 since the death of Sherri Strong in north Harris County, a jury has found a man guilty of murdering her and has sentenced him to life in prison.
Investigators with the Harris County Sheriff's Office cold case unit arrested Manuel Richard Pena in 2011.
The jury convicted Pena in the murder case on Wednesday and sentenced him on Thursday.
Strong was found nude and strangled on the floor of a garage on Hazy Valley Lane near Winding Trace Drive on June 16, 1982. She was 19 years old at the time.
Pena, who was Strong's boyfriend, told investigators that she committed suicide by hanging herself. After the initial investigation, the case remained unsolved.
HCSO cold case unit investigators reopened the case in 2011 and Pena was charged and arrested. They learned Pena had a lengthy and violent criminal history.
