Harris County app credited with $2.5 million marijuana seizure

Information submitted using the Harris County Sheriff's Office iWatchHarrisCounty mobile app helped investigators seize more than $2 million worth of marijuana and arrest two men.

A joint effort between deputies, the HCSO K-9 unit, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Houston Police Department Narcotics unit led to search warrants executed at two northwest Harris County homes on Monday, based on the information submitted anonymously with the app.

Deputies discovered hydroponic marijuana growth operations inside the two homes, located on Bonnie Chase Lane in the Katy area and Waterfern Court near Windfern Trace Drive.

Almost 600 hydroponic marijuana plants were seized from both homes with an total estimated street value of approximately $2.5 million.

Deputies arrested Long Bui, 24, and James Dang, 41, who are both charged with possession of marijuana 50-2,000 pounds. Bui and Dang are in custody at the Harris County Jail, each with a $250,000 bond.
