NJ DOT hits brakes on more red light cameras

Posted: Updated:

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Motorists won't need to fear the addition of more red light traffic cameras in New Jersey, for now.

The state Transportation Department on Thursday announced no new locations would be added to the list of 76 red-light camera intersections in 25 towns under a pilot program that's due to end as early as December 2014.

The DOT says there's not enough time to gather data from any new cameras.

The program began in 2009 as a way to determine if the cameras promote safety by reducing the frequency and severity of motor vehicle crashes.

Officials in June suspended the red-light camera program for a month after determining that 63 of the 85 devices were not tested to ensure the yellow lights were timed in accordance with the law.

Burger chain Five Guys is testing the adage that everything tastes better with bacon. It is rolling out a customizable milkshake program and along with bananas, peanut butter, Oreo cookies, salted caramel, you can chose bacon.  Yes that's right: a bacon milkshake.

For kids trying to be fashionable -- and parents looking to keep it affordable -- there's the Ocean County Hunger Relief Warehouse in Toms River, New Jersey. It's basically a huge thrift shop.
