Heavy rain has made for a long and slippery commute for Houstonians Thursday morning. A fatality accident on the southbound lanes of Highway 59 at Jackson shut down all main lanes for more than 3 hours this morning.
Houston Police Department tells FOX 26 that the driver of a pickup truck entered 59 inbound lanes traveling the wrong way. The truck then slammed head on into a car. The driver of the truck died at the scene.
The woman in the car was transported the Memorial Hermann hospital in critical condition.
The accident closed a major artery into downtown for three hours during the morning commute. Travel on alternate routes was slowed down because of the heavy rain and some minor street flooding.
