Scalpers selling Masters badges on Ga. highways

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - Police in Augusta say scalpers have set up shop along a local interstate trying to sell badges to the Masters golf tournament.

Richmond County Sheriff's Capt. Scott Gay tells the Augusta Chronicle (http://bit.ly/10PSoyS ) authorities are likely to file charges against people found scalping tickets along local highways because of safety concerns. Those arrested will be charged with improper stopping on a roadway and other offenses.

Gay added that this is the first time he's heard of scalpers taking to the highway to sell badges to the tournament, and violators will be warned before being slapped with charges.

State law prohibits scalpers from selling tickets within 2,700 feet of event venues. Last year undercover officers arrested more than 30 people who were scalping too close to the Augusta National Golf Club.
