Judge won't move trial of Ga. ex-probation officer

Posted: Updated:

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. (AP) - A Superior Court judge says the murder trial of a former probation officer charged with killing his girlfriend will remain in the middle Georgia courthouse where both the suspect and victim worked.

The Telegraph of Macon reports Judge Tripp Self denied a request by defense attorneys for Russell Holt to move his trial outside of Houston County. Prosecutors say Holt shot and killed his girlfriend, Jessica Wolfe, at his home in March 2012. She worked as a legal assistant for the Houston County District Attorney.

Houston County judges and prosecutors have recused themselves from the case. But Tripp ruled any worries that pretrial publicity has biased potential jurors can be settled by questioning panel members during jury selection.

The trial is scheduled to begin April 29.

The criminal courthouse isn't located too far from the Texas Medical Center but the details coming from the courtroom about Dr. Ana Gonzalez describe a woman who is a world away from being a respected MD Anderson oncologist.
