Panel discusses water-related illness at Emory

Posted: Updated:

ATLANTA (AP) - A panel of distinguished global health experts is set to meet at Emory University to discuss water-related health issued in developing nations.

According to the World Health organization, 37% of the developing world's population - about 2.5 billion people - live without sanitation facilities, and more than 780 million are still depending on unsafe sources of drinking water.

The panel titled "Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene: Transforming Lives" is aimed at addressing the issue, which leads to disease and, in some cases, death. The discussion is set for Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the Rollins School of Public Health.

Jeff Koplan, vice president for global health at Emory and former director of the Centers for Disease Control, is moderating the discussion. Panelists include Emory and CDC officials and others.
