ATLANTA -

While much of the attention around this year's Final Four has centered on Louisville guard and Rockdale native Kevin Ware and his broken leg, an additional interesting back story belongs to another Georgia native playing this weekend.

Wichita State has served as the tournament's Cinderella story.  As a 9th seed from a mid-major conference, the Shockers have made it to basketball ultimate stage, but no player has better exemplified the underdog role than Cochran, Ga. native Carl Hall.

In 2008, Hall was out of basketball after a heart condition forced him to quit the team at Middle Georgia College.  The senior forward had to make ends meet, so he took on a grueling blue-collar job in the Bleckley County town.

"I worked at a factory. It was a power plant back in my hometown. Worked in a paint booth on third shift, what they call graveyard shift from 11 to 7. Very hot. Every day you leave, your hand and face is almost white, so it was kind of a nasty place to work at, but it paid the bills at the time," Hall said.

Hall was cleared of his medical condition and allowed to return to the court the following year.  After completing junior college, he transferred to the Kansas school.  Last year he was named the Missouri Valley Conference's newcomer of the year

Hall has started 25 of the team's 31 games and will be playing big minutes tomorrow as the Shockers try to knock off Ware's Cardinals.  He says about 100 people from Bleckley County will be on hand to watch him play, a far cry from where he was just five years ago.
