A man has been charged in the fatal hit and run crash that killed an 11-year-old boy in southwest Atlanta, according to police.

Patrick Williams was killed as he crossed the street on Monday afternoon. Authorities accuse 43-year-old Gatha M. Dyer of striking Williams and then leaving the scene.

Family members said that Williams was walking to his cousin's house to play basketball when the incident occurred.

"He was the perfect son. He was never trouble or anything and he was just a good-spirited young boy," said Kandace Williams, Patrick's mother.

Police said that Dyer turned himself in to authorities in Clayton County shortly he allegedly hit Williams.

Dyer has been charged with vehicular homicide, DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, driving with a suspended license, failure to yield, failure to maintain lane and reckless driving. Dyer is being held on $11,700 bond, Fulton County Jail records show. He waived his first court appearance on Tuesday. His preliminary hearing has been set for April 16.

Funeral arrangements have not been made yet for Williams, but family members said services will likely be held on Saturday.
