Person killed in highway crash on Tybee Island

TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (AP) - The Georgia State Patrol is investigating a crash that killed one person on Tybee Island.

WTOC-TV reports the crash happened late Friday on Highway 80, which links the island beach community to Savannah on the mainland.

Tybee Island Police Chief Robert Bryson confirmed one person was killed in the wreck. The person's name was not immediately released.

The crash occurred near the entrance to a subdivision called Spanish Hammock. It forced authorities had to close the highway's westbound lane leading off the island and redirect traffic.
