The FBI Bank Robbery Task Force is seeking help from the public to identify a man who wore a blonde fake beard during an attempted robbery at an Amegy Bank branch in northwest Houston.
Surveillance cameras captured images of the man as entered the branch on Wirt Road near Westview Drive at around 10:50 a.m. Wednesday before he approached a teller.
The robber verbally threatened the teller, said he was carrying a weapon, and demanded cash, according to a statement released Wednesday by the FBI Houston Division. He also showed the teller a threatening note.
The man with the fake beard held a plastic bag open for the teller to put the cash inside. After the teller put some cash in the bag, the robber quickly fled from the bank and jumped inside of a turquoise Chevrolet Suburban, possibly an older model from between 1998 and 2000. He was last seen in that vehicle driving southbound on Wirt Road, and then eastbound on Interstate 10, the Katy Freeway.
No one was injured in the robbery and no weapon was ever seen during the attempt.
The FBI Robbery Task Force describes the robber as a male between the ages of 25 and 30 years old who stands at a height of between 5-feet 6-inches and 5-feet 7-inches tall, and weighing approximately 160 pounds with a medium build. He has brown eyes, and a birthmark or scar on his upper left cheek. Surveillance video images showed him wearing a dark blue jogging suit with a hood and a white bandana covering the top of his head, along with the fake blonde beard.
Crime Stoppers of Houston is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to the charging and arrest of the robber. Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 713-222-8477 (TIPS) or the FBI Houston Division office at 713-693-5000.
