Matt Burris and Michael Pearce are keeping a close eye on two things right now, their daughter Estella and the U.S. Supreme Court.
The US Supreme Court is taking up two cases concerning gay marriage.
They are California's Proposition 8 and the Defense of Marriage Act. The couple recently married in California.
Many polls show that now a majority of people favor same sex marriage.
The polls have been trending in favor of gay marriage for years.
A number of politicians, Republican and Democrat, have recently and publicly changed their opinions on the subject.
Will the Supreme Court pay attention to social and political trends?
"They don't always but they have. I don't know how they cannot pay attention to the fact that public opinion has reversed. We've completely reversed on gay marriage. I think that's why they wanted to take it up." says Fox 26 legal analyst Chris Tritico.
They court will release audio recordings of the arguments and issue an opinion by the end of June.
Like so many on both sides of the issue, Matt and Mike will be watching, and waiting.
"So whether things change or not with the Supreme Court I can't say. I hope it does for us and for our kids and our families and folks like us. But if it doesn't things are going to change." says Pearce.
