The new Fun Plex on Beechnut Street promotes itself as one of the largest 'family' entertainment centers in the state of Texas.
Melissa Spinks says, "It seems at nighttime it completely changes its entire purpose."
In a video provided to FOX 26 News by the Harris County Attorney's Office, investigators say this is what you'll find at Fun Plex when the sun goes down and the families are long gone.
Spinks says, "the nightlife involve foam, raves, parties and they allow 17 year old and up into the club and they just put in a bar and yet the bar does not have the required violation."
Spinks who's with the County Attorney's Office showed us page after page of violations written by the Fire Marshal against Fun Plex over the last few years. The biggest concern is capacity. The facility is restricted to 999 people because of a limited fire alarm system. County investigators say Fun Plex has boasted online having 4,000 people or more at parties.
Spinks says, "You'd hate to think a fire starts and you have people trying to get out and when you have a crowd of people - too many people and they're rushing to get to a door."
Fire investigators became so frustrated with the operation they asked the county attorney to investigate the facility and file a lawsuit to force the family fun center to the follow the rules.
"What we're going to do is make it an all encompassing investigation with fire code, TABC, the Sheriff's department," says Spinks. She also says the focus will be allegations of drug use and alcohol sells to minors in the late night raves and foam parties, events that Spinks says are posted on YouTube for all to see.
Fire marshals say they discovered another violation - unknown people allegedly living in Fun Plex on the second and third floors. In these pictures from the County Attorney, you'll find beds, clothes, and other personal belongings in a place that's not designated as residential.
"We're going to investigate it and file an injunction at the proper time," says Spinks.
FOX 26 went to Fun Plex for a comment but a manager has yet to respond.
