Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff's Office are trying to determine what led to a two-car crash that ended with the death of a 10-year-old boy.
The accident took place before 10:30 a.m. Tuesday on Uvalde Road near Crosby Highway in east Harris County.
The 10-year-old boy, who was a passenger inside a Pontiac car, was not wearing a seat belt. A woman who drove the Pontiac was traveling southbound on Uvalde Road when the accident took place.
The driver of the Scion car, also a woman, was traveling eastbound on Crosby Highway with a 3-year-old child secured in a car seat.
Witnesses told deputies that the Pontiac bypassed a red traffic light and struck the Scion. The 10-year-old boy was thrown from the Pontiac car and died at the accident scene. The woman who drove the Pontiac was taken by Life Flight medical helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital. She is expected to survive.
The woman who drove the Scion, along with the 3-year-old child passenger, were taken by ambulance to LBJ General Hospital and are expected to survive.
Once the case is completed, it will be presented to the Harris County District Attorney's Office to determine what charges may be filed, if any.
