Two juvenile males are charged with capital murder, but a third suspect is on the run, in connection with the murder of a homeowner in northwest Harris County early Tuesday morning.
Harris County Sheriff's Office detective Robert Spurgeon says 32-year-old Lamarque Samuels was shot to death in his garage shortly after midnight.
"It appears he woke up and interrupted a burglary in progress," said Spurgeon. The investigation revealed the intruders were trying to steal a car from Samuels' garage. One of the teens demanded Samuels turn over the keys to the car, and detectives believe Samuels was shot when he turned to run inside.
"I was in my garage watching TV when I heard a gunshot," a neighbor told FOX 26 News. The man did not want to be identified, but he says he opened his garage and yelled at the men, " 'Hey, what are you doing?'"
The neighbor says he ran back inside his house, called 911, and then heard two more gunshots. He emerged from his house to see the intruders get away. "I noticed the car was a purple PT Cruiser leaving the scene with 3 young guys in it."
With that information, Harris County Deputies were able to spot the vehicle and a chase ensued.
"The pursuit continued to the East side of Harris County where the vehicle stopped, the subjects bailed out, and two were apprehended," Spurgeon said. "One is still at large."
"He was a standup guy, a good guy. He took care of my mother until she passed," said Trahmon Samuels, the victim's brother. Trahmon says killing Lamarque to steal the car, which didn't even belong to his brother, was senseless. He believes justice will be served, even on the suspect still at large.
"I'd say turn yourself in, man. They're going to get you regardless. They know who you are."
The Harris County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information on the shooting to call them at 713-967-5810, or call Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713-222-8477 (TIPS).
