NY AG: NFL must act on sexual orientation concern

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is urging the NFL to closely examine whether potential draft picks were asked about their sexual orientation, which he says would be illegal in New York.

Schneiderman is releasing a letter to NFL Commissioner Goodell reminding him that discrimination based on sexual orientation is illegal in New York and at least 23 other states where the NFL's 32 teams are based.

Schneiderman also notes New York prohibits an employer from asking a prospective employee about his or her sexual orientation.

Last month, the NFL said it would look into whether questions asked of Colorado tight end Nick Kasa at the combine violated any laws or league policies banning employers from inquiring about a possible employee's sexual orientation.

An NFL spokesman says the league will discuss the matter at meetings next week.
