Rockets and Aaron Brooks reach agreement on contract

The Houston Rockets and free agent guard Aaron Brooks have reached a verbal agreement on a contract.

"I haven't signed anything yet, but I have a verbal agreement," Brooks said in an interview with FOX 26 Sports.

"It feels good. It feels weird too."

Sacramento bought out Brooks' contract on Friday and he officially cleared waivers on Monday.

Brooks is rejoining the Rockets, who took him in the first round of the 2007 NBA Draft.

League sources confirm that Brooks' contract with the Rockets includes a team option for next season.

"It's weird to be back, but I'm happy," Brooks said. "It's good to be where I'm comfortable.

"I'm excited. It's your old team, so you watch them. They've been playing well and running. They're having a good year. I'm excited to be on a team that's playing very well."

Brooks had his best year in the NBA with Houston during the 2009-2010 season when he averaged 19.6 points and 5.3 assists.

The Rockets traded Brooks to the Phoenix Suns in 2011.

After playing in China during and after the lockout he signed as a free agent with the Kings on July 16, 2012.

This season with the Kings Brooks averaged 8 points and 2.3 assists, while playing about 20 minutes a game.

Players bought out by March 1 are eligible for postseason play after signing with another team.

When Brooks signs the Rockets will have to clear a roster spot for him.
