Atlanta police say they confiscated more than $100,000 of fake goods in a flea market raid on Friday.
Detectives said the flea market merchants in Atlanta's West End sold the counterfeit merchandise, which included purses, jeans and supposedly designer shoes.
"We had complaints from citizens and people in the neighborhood about the amount of counterfeit products that were being sold out of here," said Captain Stacie Gibbs of the Atlanta Police Department.
Undercover cops posed as buyers to get a sense of what kind of merchandise was available. After several transactions, police went back into the shops on Ralph David Abernathy and focused on six shop owners and the fake goods they were allegedly passing off as authentic.
"Tennis shoes, blue jeans, all of the designer purses as well as all of the lines of designer clothes – Nikes, Air Jordans," Gibbs said.
Gibbs said that more than $50,000 worth of items had been seized from each of the six stores. Those merchants face felony charges.
