ATLANTA -

A living museum is flying over Atlanta this weekend.  The Liberty Foundation is offering flights to the public on a replica of the world-famous Memphis Belle.

FOX 5 took off with World War II veterans on a replica of the famous B-17 "Flying Fortress" at DeKalb Peachtree Airport on Thursday.

The Liberty Foundation flies the B-17 across the country to show what it was like for the troops in the historic aircraft. The plane is the same one used in the 1990 movie "Memphis Belle."

Rudy Phillips, 91, taught gunnery school during World War II and knows the B-17 inside and out. His ride on the Memphis Belle on Thursday brought back memories.

"It just brought back memories, yeah. Most of them good," said Phillips.

Ron Gause of the Liberty Foundation said that sometimes veterans have tears streaming down their face after taking a trip on the B-17.

Flights are open to the public this weekend. They are $450 for a half-hour ride. The Liberty Foundation says it costs nearly $5,000 for every hour they're up in the air. Click here for more information.
