Grass fire prompts shelter-in-place order in southeast Houston

HOUSTON (FOX 26) -

A shelter-in-place order has been canceled for the Clear Brook Meadows subdivision in southeast Houston following the earlier spread a grass fire in El Franco Lee Park.

Houston firefighters arrived to the fire on Hall Road near Kingspoint Road after 2:15 p.m. Thursday.

The subdivision is located behind Dobie High School and is bounded by Blackhawk Boulevard, Riverstone Ranch Road and Sagebrook Drive.

Heavy smoke in the area was a threat to irritate elderly people, young children and anyone with pre-existing respiratory conditions.

Twenty units with the Houston Fire Department were assisted by firefighters from the Pearland, Friendswood, Southeast and Webster fire departments. The Texas Forestry Service also helped control the fire with bulldozers.

No structures were in danger of damage from the fire.
