The so-called "Cannibal Cop" case is a grisly incident involving a 6-year veteran of the NYPD who is currently under trial.
Gilberto Valle is accused of planning to kill, cook, and eat women, including his wife.
Former prosecutor and defense attorney Peter Frankel, Sil Lai Abrams, a commentator on women's issues and a contributor to the grio.com, and Dr. Tiger Devore joined Good Day in studio.
"This case is going to be won or lost based on what this jury decides what is the line between fantasy and reality. It's not going to be easy for the government to prove that this defendant intended to kidnap and murder these victims," said Frankel.
A subculture of cannibalism, as horrifying as it seems, is appealing to some people.
Valle had several online conversations with other men interested in cannibalism.
"I can't say it's common at all but these guys crossed the lines. When you have more than one person looking at this fantasy they sort of egg each other on," said Dr. Devore.
The cannibal cop and his wife met online on Cupid.com. The had a short courtship. What scares me is that people have false personas. If you look at the correspondence he was having with a man in India, he was planning even before the marriage to abduct her and to cook her and to eat her. It's absolutely frightening," said Abrams.
