The Harris County District Attorney's Office has dropped the barratry case against Texas State Rep. Ron Reynolds, and two co-defendants. Spokeswoman Sara Marie Kinney says there may even be more cases to be dismissed.
"It's a nightmare," says Kinney. "But we are trying to use it as an opportunity to show the public that we are going to do what's right even if it's a headache."
It's all because of alleged misdeeds by two former investigators for the office. Lonnie Blevins is under federal indictment for stealing rare comic books that were evidence in another case, and then sold. Dustin Deutsch is under federal investigation. The allegations come from a time when Pat Lykos was the District Attorney. Mike Anderson is the newly-elected District Attorney.
The HCDAO will review 125 other cases worked by Blevins and Deutsch to determine if there is still enough evidence to proceed without their testimony.
