Houston Dynamo president Chris Canetti has a new three-year contract with the franchise.
Canetti's deal with the Dynamo expired at the end of last year.
He has been with the franchise since 2006, when he joined the franchise as chief operating officer.
Canetti was promoted to president of the franchise four years later.
He told FOX 26 Sports a three-year deal made sense for both sides.
"No magic number, to be honest with you," Canetti said. "It just felt like the right amount of years for both parties.
"It was a number that was thrown out there and we both said 'yep, that sounds good.'
"Pretty simple to be honest with you."
In 2008, Canetti won Major League Soccer's Doug Hamilton Executive of the Year Award, MLS's top executive honor.
Two years later he was named to Sports Business Journal's prestigious Forty Under 40 list, which according to the magazine's website identifies and honors the most promising young executives in sports business under the age of 40.
"I'm very appreciative of our owners, AEG (Anschutz Entertainment Group), Mr. (Gabriel) Brener and Oscar De La Hoya for having confidence in me and allowing me to continue to captain the ship for the next few years."
On Canetti's watch the Dynamo have been to four MLS Cups, winning in 2006 and 2007.
"I'm excited," Canetti said. "I love this team. I've been here pretty much since day one.
"My heart and soul are committed to it."
