
A woman and an already-paralyzed man were injured after a car struck them as they tried to cross a street in southeast Houston.
The accident took place after 4 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Wheeler Avenue and Fannin Street.
The woman was pushing a wheelchair with the paralyzed man seated on it when she tried to cross Wheeler Avenue with him at an area that was not a crosswalk.
The car was traveling westbound on Wheeler Avenue and the driver was not able to stop the vehicle in time.
The driver was able to tend to the man and woman until paramedics with the Houston Fire Department arrived to the accident scene.
The woman and paralyzed man were taken to Ben Taub General Hospital in stable condition.
No charges were filed against the driver.
