HOUSTON (FOX 26) -

A woman who was walking her dog made an unfortunate discovery when she found an infant girl placed in a plastic bag with the baby's umbilical cord still attached.

The woman, a resident of Stonegate Villas on Grant Road near Anderson Woods Drive in northwest Harris County, was walking in the complex when the dog found the bag and began to bark.

The resident contacted 911 which prompted Harris County deputies to arrive to the complex around 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The infant girl was taken by Cy-Creek Emergency Medical Services to Texas Children's Hospital to be evaluated. Paramedics removed the child's umbilical cord.

Deputies reported the infant is in good condition and breathing on her own.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office Crimes Against Children unit will conduct the investigation into the incident.
