Jewelry stolen from Four Seasons hotel

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Police are searching for two men who carried out a bold smash and grab robbery from a display case in a luxury Midtown Manhattan hotel.

The thieves took off with an estimated $170,000 in jewelry from a Jacob & Co. display case in the lobby of the Four Seasons hotel.

The NYPD says it happened at about 1:50 a.m. on Saturday at the hotel at 57 East 57th Street.

The suspects started a conversation with a hotel staffer.  When the staffer left, one of the suspects took out a sledgehammer and smashed the glass.  They then ran out of the hotel and into a waiting get-a-way car.

A hotel spokesperson told Fox 5 News that a surveillance camera captured the incident.

A security worker told the New York Post the thieves took three watches, a necklace, earrings, rings, cuff links and pendants. The suspects then fled the scene in a vehicle on East 57th Street.

The Four Season Hotel issued the following statement:

"We are cooperating fully with the police to aid in their investigation and have given the footage and screen shots from our security cameras to the detectives. The safety of our guests and employees are our top priority and our security team is working very closely with the authorities."

Police say the first suspect is a Black man about 6' tall with short black hair, last seen wearing a tan colored trench coat.  Police say this suspect had the hammer.

The second suspect is described as Black, 6'2" and was wearing gray pants and a blue jacket.

There was no description of the driver.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (8477).
