Ga. given federal funds to offer rental assistance

ATLANTA (AP) - The state has been given federal funding to offer rental assistance for disabled people who are in danger of becoming homeless.
Mayor Kasim Reed and federal officials announced award from the department of Housing and Urban Development and department of Health and Human Services Friday.
A spokeswoman for Reed says the Georgia Housing and Finance Authority will use the money to offer rental assistance for 150 extremely low-income people who are also disabled and may become homeless.
Officials say many of the people they're aiming to help are transitioning from institutional settings and state agencies are working together to find permanent housing solutions and other support services.
