Travel writer says cruise no 'Triumph'

Posted: Updated:

A Houston sports and travel writer says the reports of the unsanitary conditions on board the Carnival Cruise Lines ship Triumph are all true. As the ship was pulling into Mobile Bay, she spoke with FOX 26 News by phone.

"This may be TMI, but we've been using red plastic bags to go to the bathroom," says Jayme Lamm. "We have a cabin on the second level and we haven't been back to the room because the smell is so terrible. It's excruciatingly terrible."

Passengers have been posting Twitter pictures of that they say is raw sewage on the deck. There are also pictures of tent cities on the deck so passengers could escape the dark and stench below.

Lamm says the crew has been wonderful, and she's seen a lot of ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

"There is a family with a daughter with cerebral palsy. Anytime they have to switch floors, the father has to carry her and set her down. There are so many men who help and bring food to the elderly who can't move. As negative and as nasty as this situation is, it's reinforced my faith in humanity."
