Valentine's Day on the cheap in NYC

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK -

Love is in the air on Valentine's Day.

The holiday is marked by gifting chocolates, flowers or enjoying a romantic meal with your special someone.

But what if you haven't purchased a single thing for your loved one or made plans for a romantic interlude?

New York City has plenty of options to chose from including unique, sweet treats and singing telegrams.

Here are some other options:

  • Chocolate filled heart box
  • Flowers from your local deli at half the price of a florist
  • A stuffed animal like a Teddy Bear sold at drug stores
  • Jumbo Valentine's Day card
  • A day of wellness at a spa or your local beauty salon: a massage, manicure or pedicure
  • Hire a cleaning service to clean up your loved one's home
  • Send a singing telegram which start at approx. $100

"The perfect last minute gift? You better pray. Buy a prayer," said a man Good Day NY spoke with in Chelsea.

"Flowers and chocolates. You can never go wrong," a woman told GDNY.

When it comes to dining out on a sure-to-be busy day for restaurants, consider the 10 most checked-in restaurants on February 14th as compiled by Facebook.com.

  • Pio Pio Restaurant
  • Sushi Samba
  • Churrascaria Plataforma
  • The Hurricane Club
  • Tao
  • Buddakan
  • Beauty & Essex
  • Mamajuana Cafe NYC
  • Calle Ocho
  • The Meatball Shop

If you find yourself outside of the Big Apple on Valentine's Day, why not try a Facebook Gift? Choose a gift on the social network site and a few days later it arrives on your significant other's doorstep. They can unwrap a preview of the gift online.
