PEMBROKE, Ga. (AP) - A 5-year-old is recovering from serious head trauma after authorities say the child was struck by a truck after stepping off a school bus in Bryan County.

The Savannah Morning News reports that the accident happened Thursday afternoon, just outside of Pembroke.

Bryan County Sheriff Clyde Smith said the child was leaving the school bus around 4 p.m. on Georgia Highway 119 near the intersection of Wildwood Church Road.

Smith said the Georgia State Patrol is investigating the accident.

Pembroke is about 30 miles west of Savannah.

The winds will turn to the west on Thursday and that may be enough to push afternoon highs to near 98 degrees. Heat index values will be in the 102-108 range and that's just plain hot! There will be a 30% chance for a few storms, but most of us won't get any rain at all.

A fisherman finds flocks of fish floating dead in Texas City. On a boat on Moses lake Mark Raby was fishing and suddenly, literally, ran into droves of dead fish drifting in the water. Raby and his wife were so alarmed they saved a bag of dead fish for future lab testing, if necessary, and to figure out if whatever killed the fish can also harm humans. "We saw a bunch of small dead fish but the thing that was so amazing there were millions of them. Acres and acres of dead fish," explains Raby...
