They donations are still being counted but the Souper Bowl of Caring has hit a big mark. So far, they have tallied up more than $1.4 million in cash and food collected.
The food and cash donations are raised by local area churches, schools and businesses. 100% of all the donations benefit the Houston Food Bank and its 500 plus partner agencies.
"The Souper Bowl of Caring is a shining example of how local communities can come together to help one another make an impact," says Brian Greene/CEO Houston Food Bank.
"Last year, West University Elementary school collected more food than any other school in the nation, which is a testament to the generosity of our great city. Sadly, Texas has one of the highest rates of childhood hunger in the country, but because of the generosity of all who donated the Souper Bowl of Caring, these children as well as adults and senior citizens will receive food to nourish both their bodies and souls."
