Attendance up for opening weekend of Galveston's Mardi Gras

If you thought there were more people at Galveston's Mari Gras Celebration on opening weekend, you were right.

According to figures released from the Galveston Island Convention and Visitors Bureau attendance was up 35%.

Nearly 200,000 people turned up for the first weekend of parades, parties and concerts.

The city comes up with the number based on a car count figure for both downtown and Seawall events.

Mardi Gras festivities will continue through Fat Tuesday.  This weekends events will include a headline performance from country music star Lee Brice as well as dozens of parades, concerts and parties.
