Police in Hapeville are still looking for clues in the death of a man who was shot and killed during a robbery last month. Now, Stewart Walton's family is asking anyone with information to come forward.
Walton, a 62-year-old Vietnam veteran and grandfather, was gunned down in his own driveway two weeks ago. Two armed robbers met Walton and his wife when they arrived at their house on Dorsey Road.
Walton's wife of 21 years now lives in fear, and his brother-in-law did not want to show his face on camera in fear for his own safety.
"She just feels that she lost everything, and she feels that the people are going to come back and get her," said Walton's brother-in-law.
Walton's brother-in-law described him as a self-starter. He became a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army, and later owned his own computer business.
Police say Walton urged his wife to run the night they were attacked. They say Walton then took off running himself before he was shot in the back of the leg while still on his own property.
"Somebody's life was taken. Somebody's husband, somebody's father, somebody's grandfather, a member of our community, a friend. Somebody was taken way too soon," said Sgt. Barney Barnes of the Hapeville Police Department.
Walton's brother-in-law believes someone will come forward, and he says their family has faith in the community.
Police say Walton was found without his pants, which were not found anywhere at the scene. His wallet had been in his pants, and police are now trying to determine if the killer removed them.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Hapeville Police Department at 404-669-4683. They're offering a $2,000 reward in the case.
