Backlog of child pornography cases in Montgomery County

Montgomery County Precinct 3 Constable Ryan Gable is on a mission and is already getting results. He's tackling an issue that he says has been neglected for sometime in his area.

Gable says, "the residents up here would be shocked at the numbers. It's a crime that is rampant up here it's a serious crime."

That crime is child pornography. Constable Gable says so far he's making a dent since taking office last August. He's arrested high profile individuals like the former Saudi Aramco pilot who had child porn on his home computer and iPad.

"I have one investigator that I am able to dedicate a portion of his time to handling these crimes", says Gable.

This is that investigator James Stitt. He constantly watches a program to see who is downloading child porn in Precinct 3 which included the Woodlands and Shenandoah.

Stitt says, "we have two computers online right now that we're tracking."

That's only the tip of the iceberg...in Precinct 3 there's an average of 31 computers downloading child porn...Countywide investigators say there could be as many as 500 active cases of child porn going on in the area. Now imagine what it's like to be investigator Stitt who has to watch each piece of downloaded child porn to make a case.

Stitt says, "it's very difficult it's not something any person can do."

In the meantime, Constable Gable is putting as much effort into stamping out the problem of child porn in Montgomery County. He says it's a promise he made and he will keep to protect the children in his jurisdiction.
